Zbysław Marek Maciejewski (1946-1999), painter, draughtsman, graphic artist, professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, was among the best known Polish artists of the 1980s and 1990s. Admired for his virtuosity, a realist interested in man and nature, he regarded himself as an inheritor of Polish Colourism and Art Nouveau whose style he continued and developed with panache and creativity. His art was appreciated by viewers, critics, and collectors alike.
The exhibition staged at the aTAK Gallery focuses on the least known but fruitful early period of his career (1970-1975) when his style blossomed into splendid maturity. The exhibition features works from private and museum collections: figural compositions, self-portraits, and portraits of the artist's friends (Krystian Lupa, among others).
