"This presentation will be quite a surprise for all those who have followed Waldemar Umiastowski's progress since his debut at the beginning of the nineteen-eighties. His lightened, vivid palette, which he had previously reserved for his graphic works of a more practical nature, has brought to his canvases a spontaneous riot of colour, whose dynamics are emphasized by thick gobbets of dripping paint. There is in these paintings a lot less of the once rigorous discipline, the compositions are freer. These pictures evince much optimism, light-heartedness and the joy of painting. Such aspects clearly set these paintings apart from the artist's other works".
